THANKS for GIVING
At Hollywood POP Gallery, we know all the tricks to put a smile on that face, but sometimes, even we are captivated by a truly special person with a 40,000 watt grin! A smile of this magnitude has the power to warm the coldest of days and brighten the darkest of nights, and with some of the daily struggles and current natural disasters plaguing the holidays ahead, we at HPG wish to remind you, and Team POP as well, that the season is not about the perfect turkey or even the most amazing pie, this Thursday is all about being thankful, and giving.
This year we would like to challenge you to be a Holiday Hero to a person in need – whether it be through charitable contributions, volunteering time and services or by simply giving a genuine smile to a stranger, Pops and Popettes, we challenge you to make a difference.
Team POP has organized fundraisers and events for many charitable organizations over the years, and this week we would like to highlight a specific group in honor of their amazing work, and that group is The Robin Hood Foundation.
Hurricane Sandy Relief – Shortly after Hurricane Sandy made landfall and caused tremendous devastation to the lives and properties of our neighbors, Robin Hood reactivated the Relief Fund which was started to benefit the victims of 9/11. Thanks to generous donors, the Foundation has already distributed more than $3 million in desperately needed cash assistance (as well as other vital supplies) to over 75 organizations that are serving the areas hardest hit by the storm – including Staten Island, Red Hook and the Rockaways. Robin Hood Heroes Breakfast – At the annual Robin Hood Heroes Breakfast, The Robin Hood Foundation gathered to recognize a selection of our community partners that are delivering year-round life-saving results for our neighbors in need. Robin Hood board member and Harlem Children’s Zone President and Chief Executive Officer Geoff Canada hosted a panel discussion with three remarkable leaders whose groups are acting as first-responders to those suffering due to lack of housing, food or jobs in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. They discussed their front-line experiences and challenges in getting critical supplies to affected areas and how they expect Sandy to negatively impact New Yorkers already struggling in poverty for some time to come. In addition, the Foundation honored three remarkable Heroes who excelled in the fight against poverty by improving the lives of fellow New Yorkers in need: The Fund for Public Health , The Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corp and Harlem RBI. Please take a moment to learn more about them and share their inspiring stories.
12.12.12 Relief Concert – Robin Hood board members Harvey Weinstein, John Sykes and Bob Pittman are working with Cablevision’s Jim Dolan to produce a Hurricane Sandy relief concert at Madison Square Garden on December 12th, the proceeds of which will benefit the Robin Hood Relief Fund. This is the team that produced the landmark “Concert for New York City” to raise funds for victims of 9/11.
Hollywood Pop has the honor of booking the “name talent” for events such as these. When we say “name talent” you say “OMG JON BON JOVI!”
Set to take the stage for the concert on the 12’s are a most impressive cross-section of music’s biggest names: Bruce Springsteen & The E-Street Band, Paul McCartney, The Who, Kanye West, Roger Waters, Alicia Keys, Billy Joel and yes, Jon Bon Jovi.
More details about the concert and how to purchase tickets will be coming in the next few days, so follow Hollywood Pop on Facebook and Twitter for the alert when these go on sale as they are sure to disappear fast!
